The first people who will have an opportunity to move into a soon-to-be-completed apartment development in Fairmont Park are to be chosen in a lottery.

The cutoff date for the first round of applications for the project is Friday.

John Bernardo, executive director of the SEPP Group, said the first residents should be able to move into the apartments in May. A lottery to select the initial group of applicants is to be held on February 8.

The 34-unit development is being built on several lots on Oak Street, Poplar Street, Woodland Avenue and Birch Street, just north of Watson Boulevard.

Work on the $11.7 million project is expected to be completed in August. Seventeen duplex buildings are being constructed on property where flood-damaged houses were torn down.

All living spaces will be elevated because of the risk of flooding in the area. Carports will be located under the apartments.
