First Residents Move into New Town of Union Apartment Buildings
The population of a neighborhood just west of Johnson City is increasing this summer.
More than a dozen recently-constructed apartments in the Fairmont Park section of the town of Union now are occupied.
The housing project includes seventeen duplex buildings on several parcels near the former IBM Country Club.
The structures are located on Oak Street, Poplar Street, Woodland Avenue and Birch Street, just north of Watson Boulevard.
The SEPP Group of Binghamton is one of the developers of the project. John Bernardo, executive director of the housing agency, said 14 of the 34 apartments are occupied.
Bernardo said construction work for the remaining units is nearing completion.
One woman who moved into her apartment with her young daughter in early July said she was happy with her new home. She was one of the applicants selected in a lottery process several months ago.
