Our friends at the Greater Binghamton Health Center, sent me a reminder that May is Mental Health Month.

This is a topic near to my heart, so it's time to be straight with you about it. We have heard about way too many people with mental health issues becoming mass murderers. These events could have been prevented with early treatment.

I understand that having a mental illness can be a social stigma, but I would rather be on the path to good health than worry about what other people think. I have PTSD and anxiety disorder. At one point, I had clinical depression. I work on being healthy every single day. And I am getting there.

Did you know that 1 in 3 people in this Country suffer from depression? You don't have to feel alone at all! Katherine Zeta-Jones and Jane Pauley are two celebs that suffer from Bipolar Disorder!

The one thing you need to know is that you are in control of your treatment. If you opt for none, at least talk to people regularly to vent. If you do opt for therapy and, like me, are not a fan of medications, then refuse them and stick with talk therapy. You can call the shots, you know.

If someone in your family is showing signs of illness, please don't deny it. Get them help. It could be a matter of life and death. It is believed that Sandy Hook shooter, Adam Lanza's mother, downplayed his illness.

We all want to be happy in life, and we can for the most part. Sometimes it is as simple as talking. Happy mental health to you!
