Some milestones have been passed over the last week in the ongoing battle against COVID-19 in the Southern Tier and New York State.

Between Friday, September 16 and Thursday, September 22, New York State surpassed a cumulative COVID case count of six-million, reaching 6,200,926 on Wednesday, September 21.

The State’s positivity rate has been ranging between six-point-one percent to close to nine percent for the daily count and an average of six and a half percent for the seven-day rate.

Broome County passed the 65-thousand mark in the total COVID numbers that was reported on Friday the 16th while three more deaths were reported in Broome over the past week.

Death tolls remained steady over the past week for the other counties in the Southern Tier: Chenango, Cortland, Delaware and Tioga Counties.

Some counties showed large, one-day jumps in their infection numbers.  In Broome County, there 94 new cases reported on September 22nd.  The county had the lowest new cases at 45 new cases reported on the 19th with 71 new case on the 16, 64 on the 20th and 85 on the 21st.

Also in the past week, local County Health officials announced the availability of the new boosters specifically targeted for the sub-variants of the more transmissible Omicron mutation.

Wednesday, September 28, the Broome County Health Department had scheduled a clinic to give the Pfizer bivalent booster at the Department of Social Services offices on Main Street and on the 29th at the Health Department but a check of the County’s vaccination website shows those appointments have been snapped up.  The next clinic is October 4 at the Vestal Public library.
