Hundreds of Modernized BC Transit Bus Stop Signs Are Going Up
Old, faded and rusted bus stop signs across Broome County are being replaced for the first time in decades.
Nearly 800 new signs will be installed under a $2.3 million project that now is underway.
A consultant sent review teams around the county three years ago to assess the condition of existing signs along the 14 BC Transit routes.
The survey concluded many of the old signs were in poor condition and should be replaced.
The installation of the newly-designed signs began about three weeks ago.
According to BC Transit, every sign along the fixed route system is to be replaced. The new signs are expected to last at least 15 years.
State and federal funding is being used to cover the cost of the sign replacement project.
BC Transit commissioner Greg Kilmer said this will be the first time there will be new dedicated bus stop signs throughout the county.
The look and branding being used for the new signs is part of a larger plan that will include buses, shelters, facilities and promotional materials.
Sign pillars will be installed at some locations and smaller signs will be used in historic districts.
