To address the recent closure of the Weis grocery store on Conklin Avenue in Binghamton and ensure food access for residents, Binghamton Mayor Jared M. Kraham, along with officials from CHOW have announced the addition of a new Mobile Market stop at Saratoga Heights and Saratoga Terrace apartments.

The Mobile Market bus, a vital resource for communities in need, will now include visits to the Saratoga apartments on specific dates and times. Beginning this week, residents can expect the Mobile Market bus to be stationed outside the Cornerstone Family Healthcare clinic located at Saratoga Apartments, which is situated at 35 Felters Road.
The Mobile Market's schedule for Saratoga apartments is as follows:

  • Tuesday, March 5 from 10 a.m. to noon
  • Thursday, March 7 from 10 a.m. to noon
  • Friday, March 8 from 1 to 3 p.m.
  • Tuesday, March 12 from 1 to 3 p.m.
  • Friday, March 15 from 1 to 3 p.m.

These designated times aim to ensure that residents have convenient access to fresh and nutritious groceries. Moreover, CHOW plans to incorporate the Saratoga apartments into the Mobile Market's regular route in the coming weeks, with specific dates and times tailored based on customer feedback. For the most up-to-date schedule, residents are encouraged to visit the Greater Good Grocery Facebook page.

The Mobile Market offers an array of essential grocery items, including fruits, vegetables, milk, cheese, bread, deli meats, pasta, rice, and much more. To facilitate seamless transactions, the bus accepts both cash and credit cards. Furthermore, efforts are currently underway to obtain authorization for accepting SNAP benefits, providing additional flexibility and accessibility for the community.

By introducing the Mobile Market stop at Saratoga Apartments, Mayor Kraham and CHOW are working to ensure that residents have reliable access to nutritious food options in the wake of the Weis grocery store closure. This initiative not only addresses a pressing need but also emphasizes the significance of community partnerships in creating sustainable solutions.

Residents of Saratoga Heights and Saratoga Terrace apartments are encouraged to take advantage of this valuable resource and provide feedback to CHOW regarding their needs and preferences.

Please note that the Mobile Market schedule may be subject to changes, and residents are advised to stay updated through the Greater Good Grocery Facebook page or by contacting CHOW directly.

Did You Know This?? 13 Upstate Food Favorites You Can't Buy Outside of New York State

Upstate New York is the home to many fantastic food favorites. Mention sponge candy to somebody 100 miles outside Buffalo and you are probably going to get a blank stare. Mention a Michigan hot dog to anybody not from around Plattsburgh. Same stare. So here is a list of 13 regional food icons that you cannot buy outside of the empire State.

I will add this asterisk. You certainly can buy some of these items online, like the Saratoga Peppermint Pigs. Perhaps the Stix and Sauce item is known by another name somewhere in the country. Salt potatoes may have gravitated elsewhere but if so nobody knows where they started. And Grandma Brown's Baked Beans (God rest her soul). Well, you can buy that sweet lady's baked beans on eBay (check out that expiration date; she hasn't manufactured them since the pandemic). But for the most part you would have to walk into a store or restaurant in Upstate New York to enjoy these "regional" fan favorite foods.
