The authorities say they arrested 27-year-old Brian Johnston of Elk Grove during an investigation that is being conducted by the New York State Police Violent Gang and Narcotics Team (VGNET) into illicit narcotic sales on the grounds of the New York State Fair.

According to a news release issued by officials in the Troop D Oneida Barracks, which headquartered in Oneida but includes Onondaga County, authorities found the California man in possession of 14 grams of cocaine, five ounces of cannabis and over $3,200 in U.S. currency, suspected to be the proceeds of the sale of illicit narcotics.

Johnston is charged with Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance (in the third degree, which is a Class B felony) and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance (in the third degree) with the intent to sell (which is another Class B felony).

Johnston’s trip to the New York State Fair was replaced by a trip to the Onondaga County Justice Center.  The Elk Grove man at the time the release was issued was awaiting centralized arraignment.
