Details of Planned Binghamton Gated Community Being Developed
A Broome County developer is continuing to work on plans for a proposed gated community.
Brett Pritchard acquired an 80-acre site in the town of Binghamton from Broome County one year ago for $300,000. The property off Webb Road included buildings and facilities that had been used for decades by the Vestal Hills Country Club.
Pritchard told WNBF News he purchased an adjacent 134-acre parcel over the summer for use in the planned housing development. That land includes the former country club's golf course.
Pritchard said he's still working on the details of the proposed project, which initially could include about 35 homes.
The developer said a feasibility study will be conducted to determine whether there actually would be a market for the residential project.
Pritchard said he's had a few conversations with town officials about the potential project. He said he hopes that details could be presented to the planning board by spring.
Town supervisor Elizabeth Rounds indicated she would welcome new residential developments but she's uncertain if there would be sufficient demand for the type of project being considered for the site. But she said she would await specific plans before offering an opinion about a proposed new development.
