When I first moved to the Southern Tier back in 2003, my very first apartment was in Endicott, right along the river. My first home was near the original Nirchi's, now closed, but I still know those roads like a familiar friend. So it made me happy to see Endicott getting some national love this year, and if you live there, you might already have a sense of why.

Endicott just landed on Realtor.com's 2026 list of the hottest ZIP codes in America, coming in at No. 40 nationally. It's one of only two New York markets to make the list at all, and the only one from the Southern Tier.

Endicott Ranks Among Hottest ZIP Codes Nationwide

If you've noticed your neighbor's house selling faster than you expected, or a for-sale sign disappearing within a few weeks, the data backs up what you may already be seeing. Realtor.com's ranking measures housing demand two ways: how many people are viewing a listing compared to the national average, and how quickly homes sell. Endicott's 13760 ZIP code, part of the Binghamton metro area, drew nearly four times the viewer traffic of a typical U.S. listing in the first half of 2026, with homes spending a median of 35 days on the market.

The median listing price in Endicott sat at $231,000 through June, which puts it among the more affordable spots on the entire top 50 list. If you're house hunting on a budget, that combination- strong buyer interest paired with a lower price tag than most of the country's hottest markets is probably a big part of why Endicott caught national attention in the first place.

Why Homes Are Moving Fast Across the Northeast

If you've felt like the market has been more competitive lately no matter where you're looking nearby, you're not wrong. For the fourth year in a row, no ZIP code from the South or West made the top 50. The Northeast and Midwest dominated instead, with towns near major metros like New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Detroit showing just how much buyers still want to be close to a big city without living in one.

Part of what you're up against if you're buying right now is simple scarcity. Nationally, housing inventory recovered just 1.9% year over year as of June, and listings remain more than 11% below pre-pandemic levels. In the hottest ZIP codes, that shortage runs even deeper, with inventory over 60% below pre-pandemic norms. Fewer homes on the market means more people competing for the ones that are available, which is exactly what pushes up viewer traffic and shrinks the time homes sit unsold.

Mortgage rates have eased a little, which may be part of what's driving this. The average 30-year fixed rate held near 6.3% through the first half of 2026, down from 6.8% a year earlier. It's a small improvement, but it hasn't slowed down buyers in the hottest markets. If you're competing for a home in one of these ZIP codes, expect stiff competition: buyers nationally in the top 10 hottest ZIPs are putting down nearly 20% on average, well above the typical 13%, and bringing stronger credit to the table too.

Endicott Joins Fairport as New York's Only Hot ZIP Codes

Fairport, outside Rochester, ranked No. 4 nationally this year, the highest showing for any New York ZIP code. Endicott was the only other New York market to make the list, coming in well behind Fairport but still ahead of hundreds of ZIP codes across the rest of the country.

There isn't a local buyer profile or agent commentary tied to Endicott's ranking yet the way there is for some of the higher-ranked towns on the list. But if you're from Endicott or you've ever called it home as I have, the numbers alone are worth feeling proud of. Your town made a list with some serious company on it, and it's worth watching where things go from here.
