You know it's still summer when road construction updates continue. Here are some road work projects currently happening throughout the Greater Binghamton area that may affect your commute.

Binghamton

As of Friday, August 15, 2025, the eastbound lane of Court Street between Front Street and Water Street is closed to traffic due to construction. Eastbound traffic detour is in place. The westbound lane is open, and there remains pedestrian access.  Sections of the sanitary sewer near the intersection of Court and Front streets are being replaced as part of the Main Street improvement project. This construction will be in force for approximately two weeks.

Tioga County

Continuing work on Interstate 81/Route 17 in Tioga County around Apalachin, with the construction section narrowed to one lane of traffic for east and west travel.

Broome County Roadwork

Roadwork on Route 201 northbound area of the Town of Union; the Town of Vestal Line 1 lane may be of 2 lanes blocked for soundwall removal and replacement on 201 NB at Riverside Drive Exit. Day work is from 7 am to 5 pm with no lane closures. The shoulder is closed with a pedestrian detour in place.

Roadwork on NY 17 eastbound over Choconut Creek in Vestal with 1 alternate lane of 2 blocked for bridge repairs. Work hours are from  6 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Roadwork on US 11 in both directions between Century Drive and Page Road in Binghamton. 2 northbound lanes of 4 lanes are blocked for wall replacement. All northbound traffic will be shifted to SB with one lane in each direction, utilizing the south lanes.

Roadwork on Interstate 81 in both directions between Exit 6, US 11 Ramp in Chenango, and Upper Front Street, US 11 in Chenango. 1 alternate lane of 2 lanes is blocked for bridge repair during the hours of 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Roadwork plans for the week of August 18th throughout Broome County:

  • Paving on Hooper Road, Endwell, on County Route 033 from Country Club Road to Taft Avenue. Expect delays.
  • Paving on Hale Eddy/River Road – County Route 249 from Oquaga Lake Road to the Pennsylvania Line.
  • Paving on Stateline Road – County Route 225 from Old Route 17 to the Pennsylvania Line.
  • Cleaning ditches and rebuilding shoulders on Bevier Street, Stratmill Road, Old State Road, Colesville Road & North Street.
  • Culvert work on Stratmill Road, Old State Road, North Street & Hyde Street.
  • Grader patching on Dunham Hill Road.
  • Guide rail repairs on Bunn Hill Road, Smith Hill Road, and the Broome County Airport Road.
  • Mowing right-of-way and painting on various county roads.

Susquehana County Pennsylvania

Lane restrictions on Interstate 81 northbound and southbound between Exit 206, around the area of Glenwood/Lenoxville, and Exit 223 in the area of New Milford/Lakeside, from Monday, August 18, 2025, through Thursday, August 21, 2025, for guiderail replacement. Restrictions will be in place from 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM.

Please use caution in work zones, even when they are not active, as some may be modified as construction progresses. Let's keep our road construction workers safe, as well as other motorists and you, too!

Slow down, give yourself extra time during commutes to accommodate any detours or changes in traffic patterns.
