Illegal Fireworks Continue to Vex Binghamton Police
City of Binghamton Police are continuing to report a larger than usual number of complaints about illegal fireworks, although not as numerous as the nights leading up to and on July 4th.
Last week, City Police arrested three people for allegedly setting off fireworks in the City on Oak Street, Telegraph Street and Gerard Avenue and said they responded to around 10 complaints on July 3rd.
Officers say Saturday, the reports were “one right after the other” with over a dozen complaints throughout the City.
Overnight July 5, that number had fallen off substantially, but the City’s Community Response Team that had been tasked by the Mayor to crack down on people setting off illegal fireworks over the past several weeks, responded to several incidents.
Arrested for violating the City ordinance of Discharging Fireworks Within City Limits were 56-year-old Randy Lanko of Johnson City, 39-year-old Mark Jones and 76-year-old George Mack Senior, both of Binghamton.
All three were issued tickets and ordered to appear in City Court at a later date.
