Our offices received this email from a friend of Townsqaure Binghamton about efforts to collect supplies for those in downstate NY and NJ who were hammered by Superstorm Sandy.

I had to pass this on and invite you to bring donations to our station at 59 Court Street in downtown Binghamton. Please read the note John Gosney sent. I hope it moves you to act like it did us. Thank you for your donations in advance!

From John Gosney:

"Last year at this time our area was recuperating from a devastating flood.  With the help of our friends and neighbors and strangers from around the country we have recovered and rebuilt.

This time we were lucky.  Hurricane Sandy did not hit the Southern Tier as hard as anticipated, and the damage at home is nothing compared to the widespread damage of the coast and the Tri-State Area which Gov. Cuomo described as “apocalyptic”.

Many of us prepared for the worst and stockpiled much needed emergency and lifesaving supplies.  Food, waters, batteries, etc. were cleared off the shelves of our local stores and fortunately most of us did not need to resort to any of it.

People hit the worst are in desperate need of these supplies NOW!  They are anticipating at least 10 days without power, and soon people will feel the need for these items even more.  If you or anyone you know can spare some of these lifesaving items we are assembling teams to get them directly to the people and organizations who need them.

Please bring in whatever you can to help support this cause.  Time is slipping away and soon these supplies will be in high demand."
