Before I get started on my thoughts, I have to say this: I am from New Jersey and Connecticut. How can I claim too States as home? It's pretty easy when a very large amount of my life was spent with my Grandparents, Aunt and Uncle in Connecticut. It's where my Mom was from.

Hurricane Sandy devastated both of my "homes". It broke my heart to see places I went growing up like Seaside Heights and Long Beach Island destroyed. And have a sigh of relief when I found out my Great-Aunt was safe in her home in Cape May. My beloved former Island home in CT was overcome by storm surge.

Then I checked on my friends, many of whom I went to school with, on Facebook. There are so many stories of no power or heat, no water and no way to get around.

It makes me feel compelled to challenge you.
I know many of you have friends or family in New Jersey or lower New York, so how about we organize drives to get blood and donation supplies for them? Blood is very much needed right now, so I wonder how many of us can roll up our sleeves to show we care?

Big Wally has a blog up about donating blood to the Red Cross. Details of how to do so are right there.  You can also volunteer time if you have it. Some organizations are needing help during the cleanup. If you have family or friends in affected areas, take a couple days vacation and head down.

We went through this a year ago. We all know what is needed.

Thanks for your help!
