For people who don’t need to recover from celebrating the night before, they will be dealing with a number of schedule changes for the New Year’s holiday.

More than just a flip of the calendar, there are some services that are not available December 31 as well as the holiday on Saturday and even some early closings on December 30.

Garbage collection schedules in many municipalities are off and there is no mail delivery. All Broome County Department of Motor Vehicle offices were closing at 2 in the afternoon December 30 with all sites closed Friday and Saturday.  The COVID testing and vaccination sites at Davis College in Johnson City and the Broome County Health Department are also scheduled to close at 1:30 p.m. December 31.

In keeping with the new policy of not publishing hard-copy newspapers on certain holidays, the Binghamton Press and Sun Bulletin says the December 30 edition will serve as a combined edition for Thursday, Friday and Saturday and no newspaper will be delivered on Friday or Saturday. Normal delivery will resume on Sunday, January 2.
