Surprise! Gas Prices Have Risen Again

Well, I didn't see that one coming. I thought (hoped) as we trudged through the winter months, gas prices in New York State and Pennsylvania might go down a bit or at least stay level. How silly of me to think that notion.

To my surprise, as I passed my go-to gas station this weekend, I noticed a 5 cent per gallon increase in price. I hadn't heard of any news about increases. But there it was, illuminating the huge price much to my dismay.

And as I traveled around the Triple Cities this weekend, I noticed the price had risen at pretty much every place that sells gasoline. Some appeared to have risen up to 10 cents or more from what I recall they had been set at a week ago.

So, I decided to check the ever-trusty AAA website for an answer. Turns out that crude oil prices have risen, and you know what that means for those of us when we head to the pump. But according to AAA, the Russia and Ukraine tension has been a big factor in the crude price surge.

In the Binghamton area, the price of regular unleaded gasoline for the past month averages $3.447, and the average current price as of January 31st is $3.538. The New York State average is $3.547, and a month ago it was $3.493.

In Susquehanna County Pennsylvania, the average price for unleaded gasoline is $3.589. In Bradford County, Pennsylvania, it's currently $3.591. Both counties seem to be in the top tier for the highest gas prices in the state. The average in Pennsylvania is $3.538.
