Former District Treasurer Sentenced for Stealing from Morris Schools
A former Otsego County school district treasurer is to serve two years on probation for stealing thousands of dollars for personal use and purchases.
New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says 47-year-old Kristina Hand was sentenced in federal court to probation and community service and ordered to pay back $34,000 to the Morris Central School District.
Officials say Hand used money she pilfered while she was the school district treasurer for shopping on Amazon from 2014 to February 2020.
Hand admitted she stole around $24,000 by depositing checks made payable to the district into bank accounts she controlled. She also admitted stealing at least $10,000 more by using the district’s Amazon account and credit cards to buy items for herself.
The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District.
