It's Friday, October 15th and there is plenty to be happy about. It's the end of the work week, the weather has been great with temperatures in the mid-70's and unemployment claims are at their lowest since March of 2020. So why is everyone so grouchy?

I don't know, gas prices continue to rise as the price of oil has gone above the $80 a barrel mark. We are being told that it's going to be a cold winter and homes with natural gas could pay 30% more on average this winter. It's even worse for heating oil users (43% more) and propane users (54% more).

Let's not forget the mask and vaccination mandate controversies along with the supply chain issues. I keep hearing that Christmas is "at risk" because of the supply chain issue, to which I say, "You may not understand the real meaning of Christmas then."

For all of us that are feeling grouchy, then Friday, October 15th is the day for us. It's "National Grouch Day" because on October 15th, 1969, Oscar the Grouch made his first appearance on "Sesame Street."

So we have many legitimate reasons to be grouchy today, so I'm going to think about my first-world grouch problems.

First World Problems That Make Us Grouchy

People that tell me how to golf. One person encouraged me to take lessons. I said, "do you think that will make me a better golfer?"  I was informed that they meant piano lessons because there is no hope for my golf game.

When I open the door for someone and they don't bother to say "Thanks." This is a really good time to be wearing a mask because they can't hear me say "Your mom must be so proud of you.

People who don't eat everything on their plate. I'm talking about the all-you-can-eat buffets here. If you're not sure that you are going to like it, then take a smaller portion. The idea behind all-you-can-eat is that you can go back again...and again.

Now with that being said, I'm not against finishing everything at my family get-togethers. I make my own meals these days and it helps if there are some leftovers for me to take home. I also love my friends that don't believe in leftovers that insist that I take some home with me.
