Every year on May 1st, I call that day "My favorite time of the year." That's the day when the campground opens where I have a seasonal site in the ever beautiful Endless Mountains of Pennsylvania. Never have I missed heading down on opening day to get my camper set up and ready for the upcoming camping season after a long six months of winter. And this year, May 1st fell on a Friday so it was to be a long weekend of fun for me.

This year, because of the pandemic, the campground was not allowed to open on May 1st. I was so disappointed. If there ever was a year that I really needed to getaway to camp, this year was the one.

Fortunately, a week later, the campground was allowed to open. But for the first four weekends of camping, a combination of stress, things breaking, bad weather and a few other frustrations, I wasn't enjoying my weekend trips to camp.

This past weekend, I finally got to shake all that bad stuff out, and have a good time at camp as it should be. Everything that was broken, is now fixed, I got to spend time with my camp friends (six feet apart, of course) and the weather was perfect, well except for constant winds which for some reason, upset my Greyhound.

I even got to have breakfast at my favorite diner in Wysox. Bradford County recently went to the Green Phase, which means dine-in at fifty percent. Breakfast never tasted so good. In the county, masks are still required to enter most businesses.

My campground did a nice thing over the weekend. They hosted one of the local schools senior graduation ceremonies. Those seniors got to get their diploma overlooking the beautiful outdoor scenery of the campground's lake while following social distancing guidelines.

The only sad part of my weekend was that it was too short. But in five days, I'll be back, and confident my 2020 weekend and vacation camping experience will be a great one.
