“Dos Rios” Sign Removed Amid Speculation About Binghamton Site

Binghamton restaurant fans are wondering if a new establishment may be about to set up shop at the location of the recently-closed Dos Rios Cantina.

The Court Street restaurant ceased operations in April amid financial problems after two partners in the business were arrested on felony charges.

Workers from a Syracuse-area company on Monday removed the Dos Rios sign from the building.

The Colonial - located next door to Dos Rios - also closed following the indictment of Yaron Kweller and Jordan Rindgen in connection with an alleged November incident.

According to a statement released by a public relations firm, several members of the partnership that operated the restaurants voted to close them "as it became clear they were no longer financially solvent and did not have funds to cover payroll."

A representative of the PR firm Monday afternoon said the partners in The Colonial and Dos Rios have decided "to move on" and they won't attempt to reopen the restaurants.

Kweller recently declined to comment when contacted by WNBF News regarding the future of the Court Street properties.

Kweller acquired the building at 60 Court Street from then-mayor Richard David in January 2017 for $1,230,000. Dos Rios Cantina opened in a section of the building in June 2018.

Hundreds of people gathered outside The Colonial and Dos Rios last December to demonstrate concern over sexual assault allegations involving members of the restaurants' ownership group.

Although the Court Street businesses eventually closed, an associated restaurant - The Stone Fox on Hawley Street - continues to operate.
