Delaware County Child Accused of Threatening to Burn Down School

An eight year old child is being charged with felony making a terroristic threat after Delaware County Sheriff’s officials got a call from the Charlotte Valley School March 1 regarding a threat at dismissal time.

The elementary school student is accused of threatening to burn down the school.

The student is to appear at the Delaware County Probation Department at a later date.

Sheriff Craig DuMond is urging all parents to talk to their children and stress to them that any threats, real or not or inappropriate comments or postings on social media regarding school violence will be investigated and likely result in legal and disciplinary action against the child.  He says parents should also encourage their children to immediately report any perceived threat at school to a parent, school staff member, responsible adult or call 911 if the threat appears a real danger.
