Papers were filed by the Conklin-based food distribution company in bankruptcy court in the state of Delaware yesterday according to several media reports.

The company laid off hundreds of workers due to the COVID-19 pandemic then made job cuts permanent when efforts to sell fell through.

According to the reorganization plans, David and William Maines have resigned from the family business.

Several Maines customers, including Purdue Farms had filed suit against the distributor saying they reneged on contracts worth millions of dollars for delivering chicken to chains like Wendy’s and Burger King.
