When it comes to the Thanksgiving holiday, I'm not into it as much as some people are. It's not that I'm not thankful for what I have in life and that I live in a free country because am thankful for all that and more.

I guess Thanksgiving is more a family gathering thing, and my family outside of my wife and sister-in-law, live in Western New York, and I don't go home to spend time with family on Thanksgiving. Christmas is a whole different story.

Probably if I had kids, the Thanksgiving holiday would take on a different meaning, but I have Greyhounds and a Whippet, and they don't care about holidays, just when their next feeding time is.

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I can take or leave the big Thanksgiving meal tradition as well. Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful for the food that my wife and sister-in-law cook up at Thanksgiving.

And no, I don't know how to cook, so I'm shooed away from the kitchen, but I see the hard work they put into preparing the meal, and I would be just as happy ordering a pizza for dinner.

But if a Thanksgiving dinner is on the itinerary for the day, cranberry sauce straight out of the can is a must to go along with all the other fixings. My wife thinks it's disgusting and calls it gelatinous goo.

But I like it. And it's good for you as well. As a matter of fact, I found an article from ABC 13 that mentions several ways cranberry sauce is good for you, including helping to keep you regular if you know what I mean. And cranberry sauce has cholesterol lowers effects among other things.

So there you go. Grab that can opener, pop that solid red (or whatever color it is) glop out of the can onto a plate, and dig in. I will do the same on Thanksgiving Day.
