The Binghamton area is home to many people who have made a name for themselves nationally, and some even worldwide.

Television, film, music, technology, and many more industries have had one or more persons in their profession hail from the Southern Tier of New York.

Even the comic strip world has a local connection as you know. Johnny Hart of Nineveh, New York, was the creator of B.C. And The Wizard of Id comic strips that are published daily around the country.

The B.C. comic strip first appeared in newspapers in 1958. Johnny Hart passed away in 2007, but the comic strip lives on with Mason Mastroianni at the drawing board. Mason is the grandson of Johnny Hart. Mason also pens The Wizard of Id comic strip as well.

During this Thanksgiving week, I was reminded of the time that B.C. for its own television special - 'B.C. The First Thanksgiving.' Do you remember? Runtime of the special is 25 minutes.

According to IMDB, Johnny Hart and Jack Caprio were the writers of the special which first aired in 1973 on the NBC Television Network. In this special, B.C. discovers fire and the gang is in the hunt for a turkey.

And here's something you may not have known, IDMB notes that 'B.C. The First Thanksgiving' won the Best Feature Animation Award from the National Cartoonist Society in 1973.

The character voices were Daws Butler as B.C., Bob Holt as Wiley, Don Messick as Peter, Mel Blanc as John, and Joanie Summers as The Fat Broad.
