Can We End The Practice Of Changing Back The Clocks?

Yep, it's almost that time again. Sunday, November 7th, we get to change our clocks back. This time it's to end Daylight Saving Time. And yes the correct way to say it is 'Daylight Saving Time' not 'Daylight Savings Time.' Sure, I'm one of many who added that 'S' to the word for most of my life.

I was on the understanding that the reason for changing the clocks twice a year had something to do with farmers. It wasn't. The idea originally came from Benjamin Franklin. According to ABC 7 New York, it was the Germans who were the first to put the time change to use in 1915 as a fuel-saving measure.

While many of us don't like the change, according to Mental Floss, Daylight Saving Time in the spring has somehow shown a decline in crime. And on the opposite end, it can mess with people's health. Don't like that.

All of the United States except Arizona and Hawaii observe the twice per year time change. There was been talk in some states including New York about the possibility of doing away with it. I would vote for that.

For me, it messes up my schedule, at least during the first week each time, I don't like the fact that it's dark earlier during Eastern Standard Time and my three dogs aren't happy about it either, since it messes with the time they get fed each day. You'd think an hour either way wouldn't affect them, but believe me, it does.

But whether we like it or not, the clocks need to be pushed back an hour on Sunday, November 7th. Well, at least you will get an extra hour of sleep or whatever weird thing you do in the middle of the night.
