Broome County officials say they are looking at a potential $20 million in savings to taxpayers under the latest version of a shared services plan that is being handed over to the County Legislature.

A big chunk of that money, $18 million, is being pinned to new shared emergency radio towers for municipalities.

The Broome County Department of Social Services and the Binghamton City School District have plans to place caseworkers inside the City schools.

The third part of the shared services plan has a push for employers to save money by combining their purchasing power for employees under the Pharmacy Prescription Coalition.  That potential savings is put at $1 million.

Broome can receive matching funds from New York State for the first year.

If the measure clears the Legislature, the plan goes back to the Shared Services Panel for a September vote.

Three public hearings have been held during the process.
