The City of Binghamton is working with Community Advocates Restoring Educational Standards (CARES) and the Healthy Lifestyles Coalition to provide hundreds of backpacks full of school supplies to underprivileged youth in the City ahead of the school year.

The City has purchased 600 backpacks and around 7,000 school supply items.

Giveaways are July 29 from 2 to 4 p.m. on Walnut Street as part of one three ice cream socials hosted by CARES.

Packs and supplies are available in August on the 12th from 2 to 4 p.m. at Cheri Lindsey Park and from noon to 3 p.m. August 19th, also at Cheri Lindsey Park.

The final distribution is August 26 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Broome County Urban League.

Residents and businesses can donate backpacks and school supplies through August 14th at the Healthy Lifestyles Coalition’s temporary location at the Binghamton Plaza, the United Way in Vestal or at the Rumble Ponies home games through August 14.

The $3,560 cost is being covered through Community Development Block Grant Funding.
