Know Before You Go With Broome County’s Summer Roadwork Updates
Summer road work continues throughout Broome County and beyond. Just a reminder: Slow down in work zones, even when they are not active, as some may be modified as construction progresses. Keeping motorists, their passengers, and, of course, the workers safe is the number one priority.

Some notable ongoing projects this summer include work on the Route 201 flyover adjacent to the northbound lanes, Washington Street in Downtown Binghamton, the Murray Street Bridges, where a portion of Murray Street, between Clinton Street and Gerard Avenue, is closed to traffic during construction, and bridge repair on Interstate 86/Route 17 over the Main Street Bridge in Vestal, and Interstate 86/Route 17 from Apalachin to just before Owego.
For the week of August 11th, the work schedule to be performed on Broome County roadways includes the following, according to the Broome County Department of Public Works:
• Cleaning ditches on Ballyhack Road, Fox Farm Road, Old Route 17 & Caldwell Hill Road
• Paving work on Hale Eddy/River Road in Deposit
• Culvert work on Stratmill Road, Caldwell Hill Road, Hyde Street & Hale Eddy/River Road
• Grader Patching on Edson Road & Kent Street/Trim Street
• Mowing right of way and painting on various Broome County roads
Also, according to the Broome County Department of Public Works, there has been an update on the construction timeline for the rehabilitation of three county-owned bridges along County Route 20 in the Town of Kirkwood.
The bridges scheduled for rehabilitation are CR 20 over the Susquehanna River/ Norfolk Southern Railroad, CR 20 over NYS&W Railroad, and CR 20 over Main Street in Kirkwood.
This project for those three bridges has been postponed. The new start state is planned for April 13, 2026, with a completion date in Fall 20206.
During that time, the Broome County Department of Public Works notes that the three bridges will be closed to traffic from June 1, 2026, through September 1, 2026. Traffic will be detoured around the bridges.
In addition, single lane closures will be intermittent from mid-April to June 1st, 2026, and after September 1st, 2026, until the construction is completed. The Broome County Department of Public Works recommends that all businesses, schools, and municipalities plan accordingly.
