Broome County Drug Overdoses Up in 2022
The Broome County Health Department reports an increase in drug overdoses in the first three months of this year compared to numbers in 2021.
There have been 21 suspected fatal overdoses and 147 reported non-fatal overdoses in the first three months of this year while, the Health Department says, in 2021 there was a total of 54 suspected fatal overdoses and 516 reported non-fatal overdoses.
The Broome Opioid Awareness Council (BOAC) is again urging those with a substance use disorder to practice harm reduction strategies, do not use alone, have a fentanyl test kit and a Narcan overdose reversal kit available and, if anyone is on the scene of an overdose to call 911 immediately.
Officials are urging anyone who has a problem or knows someone with a substance use disorder to reach out to take advantage of resources that are available for treatment, prevention and support.
