Broome Agency Plans Overdose Risk Reduction Vending Machine
The Addiction Center of Broome County and Truth Pharm are being awarded mini-grants to help their efforts to combat substance abuse and overdose.
The Broome County Health Department is awarding $6,500 to each organization as Broome County officials note recent spikes in overdoses in the County.
The Addiction Center plans to use its mini-grant to establish a harm-reduction vending machine. The machine will dispense testing kits to detect the deadly additive fentanyl in narcotics and kits containing the overdose reversal drug, Narcan. According to ACBC, unlike traditional vending machines, the items don’t require dropping any coins into the machine but residents would need a code provided by the organization to access the machine.
Truth Pharm plans to expand on overdose prevention services in the region.
