Broome Beaches, Kopernik Camp and B.C. Humane Society Resume Operation

A variety of activities and agencies are slowly resuming a degree of normal operations in Broome County following the NY PAUSE shutdown in March.

Broome County is reopening all the beaches at county parks seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. by June 12. 

While the beaches resume semi-normal operations with social distancing, no concessions and other restrictions and summer day camp programs are approved to resume in New York, Kopernik Observatory is opting to hold its camps remotely online.  For more information on subjects and schedules for the eight camps go to www.kopernik.org.

Officials say it was decided that due to the physical distancing guidelines, it would be best to offer the summer camps remotely.  Each camp day runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a combination of presentations by Kopernik educators and guided at-home activities.

The Broome County Humane Society is back in business for face-to-fur interaction. The shelter at 167 Conklin Avenue in Binghamton is open Tuesday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with some restrictions, including maintaining 6 feet distance between humans inside the shelter, including kennels and cat rooms, a limit of three people per cat or petting room at a time and sanitizing between rooms.
