How Does Binghamton Fare For Snowfall This Winter Versus Other NYS Cities?
Apparently, after 3 years, the expiration date runs out on holding back significant snowfall totals. It was just over 3 years ago that I purchased my first (and only) snow blower.
I had enough shoveling during the times we experienced heavy snowfall, meaning anything half a foot or more. So, I bought a snow blower. Of course, over the next three years, significant snowstorms have been few where I live, and I fired up the machine just a handful of times at most.
That is, until the 2025 -20236 winter season. So far, that snow blower has been put to use three times, and winter has just begun. So, maybe luck runs out after 3 years of minimal snowfall? Who knows.

Golden Snowball NYS Totals
Speaking of this current winter season, I wondered how the Binghamton area was faring in the annual Golden Snowball.com contest. It's a fun online tally of how much snow has dropped on five major New York State cities - Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Albany, and Binghamton.
According to Golden Snowball.com, as of January 2, 2026, at 8 p.m., this is where each city stands:
Syracuse - 80.7
Rochester - 44.8
Buffalo - 34.8
Binghamton - 34.3
Albany - 26.4
Albany usually comes in last, and Syracuse normally tops the list at the end of each winter season, although Binghamton, Buffalo, and Rochester have occasionally topped the list.
Binghamton's Last Win
Binghamton topped the snowfall list during the 2016-2017 winter season with 135.2 inches of snow. If you remember, that was quite a winter, and I don't mean that in a good way!
Will Binghamton top this list at the end of the season? Well, given that Syracuse continues to be pummeled with snow this year, and let me be clear, better them than us, I think we will land in third, but we will see around the end of April!
NYS Cities December 2025 Snowfall Totals
By the way, according to Yahoo.com, in December, out of eight major New York State cities, Binghamton had the 3rd most snowfall at 27.9 inches. Syracuse topped the list at 60.8 inches, followed by Rochester at 37.8 inches.
Other cities included Buffalo - 25.2, Poughkeepsie at 22 inches, Albany totaled 18.8 inches, Middletown with 18.8 inches, and the Big Apple (Central Park) landed at a pitiful 7.2 inches.
