Binghamton Porchfest Is Back Today
With inflation, the border crisis, and mass shootings (among other things), I find myself longing for simpler times and simpler things. I'm a realist and I know that may not be entirely possible but if I can find an escape even for a moment, I'm all for it.
I think that the Binghamton Porchfest is just what the doctor ordered and it's back on the West Side on August 28th. This relatively new event occurs on the final Sunday in August and has continued to grow since it began in 2015.
When I think about sitting on my porch, I think of sitting on the swing and listening to the cars driving by my house as the rain hit the roof. I would hear the water coming off the tires and the melodic sounds the aluminum roof would make as the raindrops fell on it.
I think of my grandmother sitting on the porch watching the rest of us working on the front lawn during the Warren Center All-Around-Town Yard Sale on Labor Day weekend. My grandmother has passed and now I can watch my daughter sit in the exact same place as she did. For a moment, the stress of 2022 life goes away.
Binghamton Porchfest Perfomers Needed
Binghamton Porchfest is back on August 28th from noon to 7 p.m. and they are looking for performers. Over 150 acts sign up every year and there's plenty of room for everyone.
Most of the Porchfest performers are from Binghamton but you don't have to be. In the past, bands have come from Boston and Washington DC. Performers of all genres, ages, and skill levels are welcome but you only have until July 31st to register.
Binghamton Porchfest takes place throughout the historic Abel Bennett Tract in the heart of Binghamton's West Side. Don't delay. and miss out on something special. It's a chance to forget about the stress of everyday life for a couple of hours in our own backyard.
