City of Binghamton Police are investigating an incident on the West Side May 8th in which callers to 911 reported they heard gunshots.

Authorities say at around 8 p.m. Police were called to the area of 12 Garfield Avenue and confirmed several shots had been fired in the street, possibly by three gunmen.

The suspects were believed to have fled to a homes nearby on Garfield and West End Avenues.

The Metro SWAT Team was called and a home at 181 West End Avenue was evacuated and searched.

Investigators say they recovered a .45 caliber hand gun at that location.

Another home on Garfield Avenue was also searched but police say no weapon or suspects were found at that location.

There are no suspects in custody and Police say no one was apparently injured.

The authorities released a statement assuring residents there "is no threat to public safety, as the incident is not believed to be a random act."
