A funeral home is about to give new life to what had been the site of a popular eatery on Endicott's Washington Avenue.

Allen Memorial Home has acquired a building that had been home to Nirchi's on the Avenue for nearly two decades.

The property on the south end of Washington Avenue, just off East Main Street, has been unused since the Nirchi's restaurant closed in January 2019.

Allen Memorial Home office manager Michael Romeo said the sale on the property closed about two weeks ago.

Romeo said the funeral home plans to use the former restaurant site as a banquet facility.

With about 6,400 square feet of space, the Nirchi's building will be utilized for luncheons and similar events related to services held at the funeral home, which is located nearby on East Main Street.

Romeo said some minor renovations are planned at the building. He said a name for the facility has yet to be determined.

The opening date is uncertain because of ongoing restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
