Binghamton Rumble Ponies Manager Kevin Boles has named his starting pitcher for Thursday night's 2019 season opener in Manchester, New Hampshire against the Fisher Cats. Anthony Kay gets the ball for the Rumble Ponies.  He makes his Double-A debut after posting a record of 7-11 last season splitting time with Class A teams in Columbia and St. Lucie.  His ERA was 4.26.

Kay played at the University of Connecticut for three seasons and missed the 2016 and 2017 professional seasons after Tommy John surgery. He was the New York Mets number one draft pick in 2016. He attended the same high school as former Binghamton Met and current New York starter Steven Matz.  Both are graduates of Ward Melville High School in Suffolk County.

Kay  has played in the area before but never at NYSEG Stadium.  His Ward Melville Patriots participated in the NYSPHSAA Class AA  semifinal round against Baker High School from Baldwinsville.  That game was played at Binghamton University and Ward Melville fell 2-0 to Baker.

You can hear Kay's Rumble Ponies debut with Tim Heiman calling the action on Thursday night.  Pregame coverage gets underway at 6:20 P.M. on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
