Add Rhode Island to the list of states where the number of coronavirus infections as reached the point where New York is requiring anyone coming from that area to quarantine for 14 days upon entering New York.

Washington D.C. and Delaware have been removed from the list of hotspot states.  There are 34 states and Puerto Rico on the quarantine list right now. 

The qualifying metrics for the advisory are that those areas that have significant community spread with a positive test rate higher than ten per 100,000 residents over a seven-day rolling average or an area with a 10 percent or higher positive rate for the coronavirus over a 7-day rolling average.

Governor Andrew Cuomo says the travel advisory has been put in place to try to prevent re-infection and a spike in COVID-19 cases after New York battled back from the highest rate in the country in the spring to a continued steady decline in the numbers. 

August 4, New York reported 746 new cases for a total of 417,589 and three new deaths for a total of 25,175 residents dying in the pandemic. 

Broome County reported ten additional cases August 4 for a total of 1,020 and 69 deaths.  Chenango County’s numbers were unchanged at 211 positive and 7 deaths.  Cortland County reported one new case for a total of 90. Delaware County was unchanged at 96 cases and 6 deaths. Tioga County reports two additional cases for a total of 199 and there have been 25 deaths.
