If I had to pick one thing about the Southern Tier that makes me proudest, it would have to be how we come together to help our friends and neighbors. This weekend, as you get out and about, there are a few ways you can do that.

Tomorrow from 11 am to 6 pm at American Legion Post 80 on Main Street in Binghamton, there is a benefit for Carter Welsh, a 14 year old wrestler, who suffered brain injury while wrestling. The cost of medical care is substantial, so friends and family are throwing this event, including spaghetti dinner, a cake raffle, entertainment, and other raffles to offset the costs. Stop by.

There is a benefit for former Red Cross worker Donna Teekasingh at the Relief Pitcher, 197 Conklin Ave in Binghamton, on Sunday from noon to 7 pm. Donna has both brain and breast cancer and due to being unable to work is now without health coverage. This event will certainly help her cover medical costs. Buffet, raffles and more are included.

There's a benefit for 2 yr old Luca Phillips, who has an inoperable brain tumor, at the Choconut Inn on June 2nd from 1 to 10 pm. There will be music, chicken bbq, baskets, raffles and more.  What can I say about this one? Important.

Other events to check out this weekend include:

A Doug's Fish fry at the Endwell United Methodist Church to benefit the Council of Churches' Ramp It Up program. Grab that Doug's between 11 am and 6 pm!

Join Joe Macri and the Blue Suede Shoes as the jam for the American Legion Post 1645, 177 Robinson Street in Binghamton, during their food and flea market from 10 am to 5 pm Saturday. Sounds like fun.

True Friends Animal Welfare Center, Routes 29 & 706 in Montrose, hosts the Walk for Friends walk on Sunday. Registration is at noon and the walk begins at 1 pm. Proceeds go to making sure no homeless animal goes without the medical treatment they deserve. For info go to Truefriendsawc.com. In case you don't know, this is the only shelter that services Susquehanna County and parts of 2 other counties in PA. They need support.

You can never get enough cars so stop by this. The Boys and Girls Club of Western Broome hosts the 3rd Annual Blast from the Past Cruise In and Awards on Sunday at Tri-Cities Airport in Endicott. Gates open at 9 am. Includes hundred of street rods and race cars on display, food, entertainment and more.

I was a band geek in school, so I have to mention this one! The Maine-Endwell Music Boosters are holding a chicken bbq on Sunday from noon to 6 pm at the Maine-Endwell Middle School. Eat in or take out.

And this is clever. Scooters for Hooters, a motorcycle race for Traci's Hope, is Saturday at Square Deal Raceway in Harpursville. Sign up is 2-4pm and racing starts at 6pm.

Get out and discover all that the Southern Tier has to offer.
