Metallica Book Headlining Gig at 2013 Roskilde Festival in Denmark
Metallica have plenty on their plate, but the lure of the road never keeps them away for too long. The band, who have a handful of scattered shows throughout 2013, will take the stage as one of the headliners at the 2013 Roskilde Festival in Denmark.
The show is significant for Metallica fans abroad as it marks their lone European performance of the summer. The festival itself runs June 29 – July 7, though the specific date the band is playing has yet to be revealed. The music week will also feature sets from Slipknot, Queens of the Stone Age, Volbeat, Airbourne, Hatebreed, Suicidal Tendencies and more.
“It’s been ten long years since we’ve been to this classic festival and we can’t wait to return,” stated Metallica in their announcement about the show. Meanwhile, the organizers of the Roskilde Festival added, “The giants will take a short break from the studio recording their 12th album to visit Roskilde for the first time in ten years. It was not in the cards that the undisputed kings of metal were not going to Europe at all this summer. But late in the game, we managed to secure a single show with the band that visited Roskilde ten years ago, teaching us a lesson in thrash metal that made traffic around the festival come to a standstill.” Tickets for the Roskilde Festival are available here.
Metallica have been trying to get the recording of their next album off the ground, but admittedly James Hetfield recently stated that the band’s full schedule that includes the launch of their 3D film and numerous tour dates has slowed the process.
