Every week during Freezone in the Morning we do a feature called "Joe Knows" with Joe Stanley from the Stanley Law Offices. Joe gives us free legal advice every week and sometimes it's just safety advice or safety reminders.

This week's feature was all about pre-nuptials and planning when it comes to long-term relationships. Joe informed me that the day after Valentine's Day is the biggest day of the year for people to file for divorce. I'm sure we can guess what the reasons are, maybe somebody forgot Valentine's Day, or didn't do anything romantic enough for the other one's likings, but whatever the reason, a lot of people file for divorce on the day after.

According to Joe Stanley, even though pre-nuptials are not romantic, if you own a lot of property or have a lot of money before you get married, it might be a good idea to get a pre-nup to protect yourself if something were to happen down the road. Even if you don't get married, if you are in a relationship where you jointly buy property or a house, or something of great value, it is still good to get in writing who will get what if you two end up parting ways down the road.

The cool thing about Joe Knows and Joe, in general, is that even though he does not handle divorce cases or prenuptial agreements, you can still contact him for advice. Joe always says if he doesn't handle that type of case, or if he can't answer your question, he can refer you to someone that can. You can reach him at 1-800-608-3333.

Check out Joe Knows every Wednesday morning around 6:20am during Freezone in the Morning!
