Willow Point Gets CARES Act Funds

The Broome County-owned nursing home that was just added to the list of coronavirus hotspots is getting federal money to help it deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand this week announced New York State’s skilled nursing facilities would be getting $394,092,500 as part of the coronavirus relief funds approved by congress.

Willow Point Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Vestal is getting $800,000 in emergency funds.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar says the money will be going to the nursing home’s operating budget as costs associated with testing and treatment for dozens of residents who have tested positive for the coronavirus soar and county revenues have taken a serious hit by the pandemic shutdown.

Schumer and Gillibrand say New York will be getting the most of any state of the over four trillion dollars in federal money for nursing facilities.
