What We Missed Out on This Weekend [Photo Gallery]
This past weekend would have been the New York State Finger Lakes Wine Festival at Watkins Glen Raceway.
My wife Chris and I have attended the event three out of the last four years with our friends Lisa and Doug. The first time we attended the weeknd festival we camped in a tent. I believe the tent was made for eight people, but it only held the four of us with two queen-size inflatable mattresses.
The following year we did not attend. The year after that, Doug and Lisa bought a camper. The wine festival was one of the major reasons they bought a camper. So for the last two years we stayed in their camper Friday and Saturday night and then pulled the camper out on Sunday. Last year our friends Rich and Holly camped in a tent outside of Lisa and Doug's camper.
The event features wineries from all over New York. There are also breweries and distilleries on site, along with food and craft vendors. There's live music each day too. The event draws thousands, if not over a hundred thousand to Watkins Glen every year.
People charter buses from all over New York and Pennsylvania to attend the annual event.
We had a blast all three times, but it was much more fun and comfortable in the camper. This year, Lisa and Doug moved from Endicott to South Carolina and they sold their camper so we probably weren't going to go anyway. This years event itself was canceled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
We spoke with Lisa yesterday and she said they may have to come up for a visit next year so we can go to the festival together. It looks like we will be back in a tent in 2021.
