What Was Your First Vehicle?
Do you remember? I do, sort of. I believe it was blue, but I don't remember where I bought it.
I was a later bloomer when it came to getting my driver's license. I got my driver's permit when I was 17 after taking a driver's education course in high school, but didn't get my driver's license until I was 19.
My first car was a used 1965 Ford Fairlane. It was a bit beat up, but it ran. I took my first driver's license test with that car. And the second test too. I failed both. Shortly after, my grandfather took me to my third attempt, and I drove his car in the test course. Guess what? I passed.
While I like to think pass or fail hinged on the car I was driving, I tend to believe it was more the fact that I sucked at parallel parking. To this day, I don't like to parallel park, and will avoid it as much as I can. Especially since I drive a long van, and it's not the easiest to parallel park with.
After a couple of years driving my Ford Fairlane, I had a minor accident. I lost control on a snowy road and ended up in a ditch. Probably the fact that my tires had very little tread, probably lent to the crash. I bought my second car from one of my aunts for 50 dollars. It was some type of Chrysler car (I don't remember) and it was a large vehicle. It ran well and didn't need a key to start it. The ignition was large enough to turn by hand, and that's all I needed to get the car running. Anyone could have stolen it, but I'm pretty sure no one would have wanted it.
