Police and fire investigators are working to determine if a series of possible arson fires in Binghamton are related.

City firefighters battled three blazes at vacant houses downtown and on the South Side that broke out within less than six hours.

The most serious fire ripped through a three-family apartment building at 8 Livingston Street. It was reported shortly at 2:55 a.m. Wednesday.

About a dozen people were evacuated from neighboring homes that were threatened by the blaze.

The fire marshal's office and police detectives are interviewing witnesses and those who live nearby for information about the suspicious fire.

An abandoned house at 23 Tudor Street sustained heavy damage in a fire that was discovered at 10:43 p.m. Tuesday. That property is owned by the city of Binghamton.

Fire officials say a third suspicious fire occurred at 95 Susquehanna Street. That blaze was reported at 4:35 a.m. Wednesday.

Investigators say a fire that caused extensive damage to an abandoned building on Columbus Park East last Thursday morning also is considered suspicious.
