The not so welcome late-season snowstorm is behind us, and hopefully, we will not have to deal with any significant snowfall until the end of the year (or later if I had my way.)

But unfortunately, areas in the Southern Tier of New York State and Northern Tier of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania still remain without power from this record-setting April snowstorm.

A few of my co-workers are dealing with a lack of power and the possibility of it remaining that way for a few more days. Fortunately, power company crews are working very hard to restore power as soon as possible.

In the meantime, here are places to go for certain items for families dealing with power outages, including warming shelters, water, and dry ice in Broome, Tioga, and Chenango Counties. Keep in mind that supplies, times, days, and locations may be limited or change.

Jason Garner, Broome County Executive's Facebook page lists the following:

  • Conklin Fire Station, 1034 Conklin Road in Conklin
  • Deposit Fire Station, 130 Second Street in Deposit
  • Lisle Fire Station, 9090 Main Street in Lisle
  • Union Center Fire Station, 1811 Union Center Maine Highway in Endicott

Also, Garner notes that all of the Broome County Senior Centers and the Broome County Public Library are open as warming shelters during the day. And residents may bring personal water containers to fill up.

Binghamton Mayor, Jared Kraham notes on Twitter that warming centers in Binghamton are open on Wednesday, April 29th including Trinity Church at 44 Main Street until 8 p.m., the First Ward Senior Center at 226 Clinton Street until 5 p.m., the Broome County Public Library at 185 Court Street until 8 p.m., and the Baldwin Gym at SUNY Broome will open at 7 p.m.

In Chenango County, the Office of Emergency Services Facebook page lists warming stations at the Coventry Fire Department, Smyrna Fire Department, and YMCA in Norwich. Distribution points for water and ice are at the Bainbridge Fire Station and the Norwich Fire Station. Check the Chenango County Office of Emergency Services Facebook page for times, updates, and other important information.

The Tioga County County of Emergency Services Facebook page reports that dry ice and water are available at the Public Safety Building, Owego, and Campvile Fire stations #1. Check the Facebook page for days and times and be aware supplies may be limited.
