A light turnout is expected for local elections that saw New Yorkers able to go to the polls to cast votes early for the first time.

One of the most hotly contested local races is for Broome County District Attorney with Republican Paul Battisti, Democrat Debra Gelson and Libertarian Michael Korchak capping off a race that often featured nasty attack-ads.

All Binghamton City Council seats but one are contested. 

There is a three-way race for Mayor in Endicott between Working Families party candidate Larry Coppola, Republican Linda Jackson and Democrat Cheryl Chapman.

Vestal residents are selecting a Town Supervisor. On the ballot are Democrat John Schaffer and Republican Fran Majewski with write-in candidate John Filip also running.

In Norwich, Democrat Jill Osterhout Kraft, Republican Shawn Sastri, Conservative Christine Carnrike and Norwich Pride Party candidate Joseph Maiurano are running for Mayor. 

Incumbent Tioga County Sheriff, Republican Gary Howard is being challenged by Libertarian Joseph Breitwieser. 

Town of Union voters are deciding on a proposal to provide more money to operate the public libraries in Endicott and Johnson City. 

Voters are selecting three justices for New York State Supreme Court Justice. Democrats Peter Charetsky and Claudette Newman are on the ballot with  Republicans Chris Baker, Mark Masler and Oliver Blaise.

Polls are open 6 a.m. until 9 p.m.  Check with your local board of elections if you don’t know your polling place.
