Community Gardens Group VINES Starts Building Capital Campaign

The non-profit organization called Volunteers Improving Neighborhood Environments has launched a fundraising drive to help pay for a new headquarters project.

VINES executive director Amelia LoDolce said construction on the building in downtown Binghamton for agency offices and programs is expected to begin in May.

The structure will be located at Susquehanna and Fayette streets on parcels VINES acquired from the city.

The goal of the capital campaign is to raise $150,000. VINES has secured more than 70 percent of the total project cost of $960,000.

LoDolce said the facility will have about 4,000 square feet of space.

A solar energy system installed at the nearby VINES urban farm on Tudor Street will generate enough power to cover the electricity needs of the new building.
