Ride services such as Uber and Lyft may soon be available in the Binghamton Area. According to Pressconnects, the New York State Assembly approved a bill Tuesday that would allow the ride along services to expand across the state in time for the Fourth Of July holiday.

Uber and Lyft are like taxis where people use their own cars to drive customers from one location to another. You can summon a driver by using an app on your phone. I never used one, but my brother would use them from time to time to get around in New York City.

I read a report today from CNBC.com that according to a new survey, about one out of every 10 people that sold their car last year are going to rely on using ride services such as Uber and Lyft instead of replacing their car. On the bright side, you can save money by not paying for car insurance, gas, and maintenance,  but on the other hand, you won’t be able to come and go as you please.

The service will come in handy if you are going to be partying. Lawmakers expect the new law to help cut down on drinking and driving.

If Uber and/or Lyft come to Binghamton, will you use it?
