Two horses which reportedly were being neglected in Tioga County have been turned over to a foster family.

Authorities say two Town of Tioga residents face charges following an investigation by the sheriff's office.

Officials say 26-year-old Ryan Murphy and 25-year-old Marissa Lynn Stilson were arrested Monday.

Murphy and Stilson each were charged with two counts of abandonment of animals. They also were charged with two counts of failing to provide food and drink under the Agriculture and Markets Law.

The sheriff's office launched an investigation after a complaint was made indicating the two horses were not being fed or watered.

Both horses have been placed elsewhere until court proceedings have been completed. Authorities provided no information about the condition of the horses.

Murphy and Stilson were ordered to appear in Tioga town court on December 19.
