Two Binghamton Men Charged After Police Seize Loaded Gun, Drugs

Special investigations unit task force members confiscated a handgun and more than six ounces of meth when they searched a residence in Binghamton.

Authorities say two men were arrested in the drug raid on the city's South Side.

The suspects are 36-year-old Kenneth Everling and 33-year-old Jamel Nichols. The men were arrested after police executed a narcotics search warrant Thursday at an apartment building at 322 Conklin Avenue.

Everling has been charged with four felony counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and a felony count of criminal possession of a weapon. He also was charged with two misdemeanor counts of criminally using drug paraphernalia.

Nichols was charged with two misdemeanor counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Investigators say they seized a loaded Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun. They say they also found methamphetamine, alprazolam pills, amphetamine pills and sublingual suboxone films. Drug packaging materials also were confiscated in the raid.

Everling was arraigned in Binghamton City Court and sent to Broome County Jail. Nichols was released on an appearance ticket.

The arrests were made by the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force.

According to a news release, assistance was provided by the Southern Tier Crime Analysis Center and the Binghamton police department's community response team.
