A few weeks ago, I convinced a couple of co-workers to take our Trip on a Tank blogs to the next level, and instead of just writing about these trips, we would actually visit these places.

After all, it's only fair to the Whale Nation to give a true, first hand experience of these adventures, rather than just reading up on the attraction. OK, my real reason is to get a free trip paid by the radio station and enjoy a day off, sort of.

Our first trip to Scranton, PA was certainly a fun one, and hopefully you have seen my report on the Steamtown USA National Historic Site and the Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour.

Those two attractions are great places to visit. After those adventures, my request was to see a couple of places that were featured in the NBC sitcom 'The Office.' Even though the show was filmed in Los Angeles, the fictional setting was in Scranton.

Throughout the 9 season run, there were many scenes including the opening scene displaying and mentioning real places and signs of Scranton, including a Welcome to Scranton sign, one of the downtown streets and the Pennsylvania Paper building, also located downtown.

Of course, I had to visit all three. Only one of the three was difficult to find. The welcome sign was removed several years ago from it's roadside location to inside one of the downtown Malls. After searching almost every inch of that Mall, we found it, and my day was made!

We ended our trip to Scranton with a visit to the University of Scranton, where Ashley Surkin, the person who is in charge of The Whale's Web Site, graduated. She showed us around the impressive campus and promised a great lunch at the University's food court. Unfortunately, when we arrived at the food court, it was closed. You should have seen our sad, hungry faces.

None the less, the day was a fun, education one, and I highly recommend you visit the city to our South across the state line for a great day that will only take a tank of gas or less!
